The book of Acts ends with Paul finally arriving in Rome. He had yearned to go there for some time (Romans 15:24). When he arrived, he followed his normal protocol to talk to the Jews first (Acts 17:1-2); since he was under arrest, he could not enter the synagogue, but rather called the Jewish leaders to him.

He told the Jewish leaders why he was there, and they expressed interest in hearing his side of the story since they had heard negative things about Christianity. But when Paul told them about Jesus, some were convinced and others disbelieved. The Jewish leaders vigorously argued with each other.

It seems that Paul was telling many of them something they did not want to hear. A Jewish person in that time was still waiting for the Messiah to come. To be told that the Messiah had already come and that they, the Jews, had put Him to death was not welcome news. But that did not change the truth.

In our day and age, there are many who do not want to hear about Jesus. It is inconvenient to deal with the truth about Him and ourselves. Just like the Jewish leaders who preferred to go on living as they had been, there are people around us who prefer their current life to one with Jesus. But that does not change the truth. May we continue telling others about Jesus - even when it is not what they want to hear.

We have been approached by an individual who wants to help our church to be proactive in being prepared for the future. Recently there was a chance to purchase the house behind the church, but we were not in any position to purchase it. They have since taken it off the market, but will most likely be putting it back on the market in a year or so. This anonymous person has offered to match up to $5000 each month (from May through December) that would be given to the parsonage fund over and above your regular offerings. This is a great opportunity to get prepared to purchase some needed property for parking since our church is landlocked. Please consider donating some money towards this fund so we can be better prepared for this possible opportunity.
