To The End Of The Earth

Acts 10

When Jesus left the earth, He commanded the disciples to take the Good News to Jerusalem, Judea, and Samaria, and to the end of the earth (Acts 1:8). Initially, the disciples' ministry was focused on the Jews (Acts 1-9), but in Acts 10, the ministry to the Gentiles began.

When Peter sees a vision of animals coming down from heaven, he is perplexed as to the meaning. But when he meets with Cornelius' men, the message becomes clear: Peter should not call any person common or unclean. While it was uncomfortable for Peter to tell the Gentiles about Jesus, he realizes when the Spirit arrives that God was giving the same gift to the Gentiles as He had given to the Jews.

I love Peter's recognition: "Who was I that I could stand in God's way?" Thankfully, Peter - and the rest of the early church - recognized what was happening. They realized that God's gift of His Son, Jesus, was universal. They acknowledged that God had granted the Gentiles repentance that leads to life. And it is because of that gift to the Gentiles that we have heard about Jesus.

But it does not stop there. Our job is to continue this mission of being witnesses for Jesus. We, like Peter, should not see any person as common or unreachable. So let us take this message to the end of the Earth.

Upcoming Events

February 7 - G.R.O.W. Meeting at 7 PM
Some have been wondering what G.R.O.W. is. It is FBC's new outreach program that everyone in the church can be active in. It stands for God Rewards Our Work. This first meeting is going to be an introduction of what it is as well as some training involved. After the training is over, all that we ask for is one and a half hours one night a month. Who can't give God one and a half hours a month? You may not want to go to people's homes, and that is fine. We will have opportunities for you to hand write letters, send emails, or make phone calls. This is a great opportunity for you to be the Ambassadors of Christ that we are to be.

February 10 - Church-wide Bowling Night Out at 7 PM at Pike Bowling in Canonsburg. Cost is $12 per person for 3 hours of bowling (this includes shoe rental).

March 3 - Washington City Mission Outreach

Who Do You Think You Are?
How do you see yourself? A masterpiece or a mess? Survivor or struggler? Advocate or critic? Getting perspective on how God sees you might give you a new view of yourself. Join us as we look at who we are in Christ. We are Ambassadors, Masterpieces, Overcomers, Salt & Light, and Disciples.

Yesterday:
We continued our series of looking into who we are in Christ. In Christ, you are God's Masterpiece. As God's masterpiece, you are created for the Master's purpose, you have everything you need to do what God wants you to do, and God uses everything in your life for His purposes. Sunday's message is available on our website, just under the calendar, or you can listen by visiting us on iTunes. You can also listen to previous messages.

Next Week:
We continue our series Who Do You Think You Are? by looking at how we are Overcomers. We hope to see you here!

Note:
Please be in prayer for some of our members that are having some health issues: June Davis, Helen Ermiles, and Ann Brautigam. Thank you for bringing these needs to the throne-room of God on thier behalf.
