You Are All One
Galatians 3
Galatians 3:26-29 says, For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.
Jesus said that the world would know that we are disciples because of the love we have for one another. Later, He prayed that we would be one just as He and the Father are one. Jesus cared a lot about our unity. Our unity shows the world that God sent Jesus into the world. But simply look around and you'll find plenty of disunity and discord among the people of God in the form of age-old debates, denominational differences, and church splits. Why is unity so difficult for church people? Maybe Christians are more interested in being right about some issue than seeing lives changed through the gospel. Maybe we have detached ourselves from anyone who is slightly different than us. Maybe we have not fully repented of racism. Or, maybe we have an attitude of elitism or entitlement.
In any case, the message of the gospel is hindered when Christ-followers fight. Can we come together and at least say, "If they are not against us, they are for us"?
Politics or government will not save the world. Education will not save the world. Morality will not save the world. Only Jesus will save humankind. The world is waiting for the church to unify around the life-changing message of Jesus Christ.
Jesus' prayer was this in John 17:22-23, And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me. Lord, unify us.
