FBC E-Blast
First Baptist Church
November 12, 2012
The First Baptist Church would like to thank all veterans who have bravely served and fought for the freedoms, priviledges, and rights that we as a nation enjoy. We thank those church members who served our country as well. Veteran's Day is the day we say thank you to all the men and women who serve and have served to protect our freedom and we thank their families that anxiously await and support them. Especially those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

Out of This World!
I Timothy 5-6

The cross of Christ turns "the world" and what it values upside down. The Bible tells us that without Christ, those who consider themselves "wise" are as fools. Those who are "rich" are poor. Those who are "powerful" are weak. And those who are "free" really are slaves. With such a radical message that strikes so directly at the social order, Paul reminds Timothy in this chapter to instruct new believers under his care not to use that power disruptively or to get an advantage in this life.

Christ followers change the world through humility and service to others in light of eternity, he says.

If your boss is a believer, don't use your your equal status as brothers and sisters in the family of God to ignore his authority, but see it as a reason to serve him. The true freedom and the true power of Christ's world-changing message comes from being less and seeking less in this world. It comes by putting our whole hearts - our treasure and our trust - in Christ's eternal kingdom.

Paul commands us to be content with what we have. He urges us not to trust in or to chase the temporary and empty joys that come from the desires of the world and its riches because they all compete with Christ for our worship. We are defined not by what we have or don't have, but by what we willingly give up for the cause of Christ. The rich, then, who want to take hold of the fullness of life in Christ must be generous and do good.

Even though Paul is encouraging Timothy, his apprentice, in leading the church, his message is for all believers. The fullness of life that comes from faith in Christ - righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness and gentleness - is an intentional pursuit with a single-minded focus and none of it should make sense to the world.

Current Series

Battles are inevitable but victory is not. We often find ourselves fighting enemies that are stronger than we are. So how do you stand fearless when there's so much at stake? Be inspired by accounts from God's word about average people who became champions and overcame insurmountable odds. Do you have what it takes? Experience Fearless to find out once and for all.

Last Sunday:

We continued our series of Fearless by looking at the stark contrast between the mindset of Saul and the mindset of his son Jonathan. Saul lived a life out of scarcity, while Jonathan lived a life out of abundance.
Sunday's message is available for streaming or downloading on our website, just under the calendar, or by visiting us on iTunes.

Next Sunday:

Special Opportunity

We have been approached by an individual who wants to help our church to be proactive in being prepared for the future. Recently there was a chance to purchase the house behind the church, but we were not in any position to purchase it. They have since taken it off the market, but will most likely be putting it back on the market in a year or so. This anonymous person has offered to match up to $5000 each month (from May through December) that would be given to the parsonage fund over and above your regular offerings. This is a great opportunity to get prepared to purchase some needed property for parking since our church is landlocked. Please consider donating some money towards this fund so we can be better prepared for this possible opportunity. We have raised $8,630! Praise the Lord!!
