Do You Hear His Voice?

John 10

The human voice is a very special thing. We can recognize instantly the voice of a loved one in a crowd or over the phone. A mother can recognize her child's cry of "Mama!" in a busy Wal-Mart. A familiar voice can calm your nerves, give you direction, inspire trust. On the other hand, an unfamiliar voice may elicit suspicion, fear, or confusion.

Jesus told His disciples in John 10, My sheep hear my voice, I know them, and they follow me. One of the marks of belonging to Jesus is the ability to hear His voice.

What was the last thing you heard God say to you? Has it been a while since you heard from Him? When Jesus was tempted, He drove away Satan by quoting scripture. He said Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. Hearing God's voice is not just a luxury for super-Christians... it's the vital, life-giving daily food for every true believer.

Do you hear His voice? He speaks in many ways... through the Bible, through the voice in your conscience, through other believers. The Bible is the most reliable and available source of God's living word to us. God will never contradict His word.

If you haven't heard God speak to you, it's possible that you don't belong to Him, or that habitual sin has made you hard of hearing. Do not fear! Simply ask Him to speak to you, and take time to listen. Surrender to Him and believe. Ask Him to open your spiritual ears just like He opened the ears of the deaf so long ago. Open up the Bible and ask God to speak through the scriptures to your heart today.

Current Series

Weird
These days, it's normal to deal with financial debt, high divorce rates, and bad relationships. Maybe it's time to shake things up. Join us as we explore life beyond normal in our series, WEIRD. The messages are entitled: Weird In A 'God' Way, Weird Is Better, Weird Desires, Weird View of Money, Weird Way To Save The World.

Yesterday:
Yesterday we talked about how Weird Is Better from I Peter 1. We saw that its not only okay to be different (weird), but it's way better! God has called us to being holy, set apart. The broad path (normal) people may ridicule us when we get on that narrow (weird) path, but we need to remember that the world persecuted Jesus, so it will persecute those who follow Him.
This message is (or soon will be) available on our website, just under the calendar, or you can visit us on iTunes. You can also listen to previous messages.

Next Week:
Lord willing, we will look into Weird Desires from I John 2. We hope to see you there!
