Rooted

Colossians 2

Planting season. It's not for the faint of heart... or those without green thumbs. There is a method and a process to helping small little shrubs, trees, and flowers establish their roots and thrive.

Did you know that the same is true for you and me? Our roots go deep... to the point of when we first heard about God, His Son, and how much He loves us. For most of us, our parents, grandparents, friends, teachers all helped to begin those early spiritual roots. Our salvation firmly established them.

As we grow and learn more about Him, expanding our knowledge and our faith, our roots get stronger. And as we grow, we begin to grow UP. Our roots give way to stems, twigs, branches, fruit.

It is the other blessings God sends our way that help tend to these flowerings: daily time with Him in prayer and reading the Bible, church community with which to worship in unison, and His pruning and grafting through friends and family (and sometimes strangers) who steer us higher toward heaven.

And we need not worry when storms or ice or wind threaten; if our roots are strong and held firm, we will not be moved. Wind may toss us around, but we remember where (Who) we are from.

As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving. (Colossians 2:6-7)

Special Opportunity

We have been approached by an individual who wants to help our church to be proactive in being prepared for the future. Recently there was a chance to purchase the house behind the church, but we were not in any position to purchase it. They have since taken it off the market, but will most likely be putting it back on the market in a year or so. This anonymous person has offered to match up to $5000 each month (from May through December) that would be given to the parsonage fund over and above your regular offerings. This is a great opportunity to get prepared to purchase some needed property for parking since our church is landlocked. Please consider donating some money towards this fund so we can be better prepared for this possible opportunity. We have raised $7,185! Praise the Lord!!

Last Sunday:
Last week we looked into the disappointment of life and how to deal with that. These disappointments should direct us to the source of all comfort.
Sunday's message is available on our website, just under the calendar, or you can listen by visiting us on iTunes. You can also listen to previous messages.
