Joy

Philippians 4

Paul taught the church in Philippi - and us in the modern church - that we should be united with one another in our faith in Christ. That we should be humble, which is both the method and reason for our unity. And that we must consistently persevere toward maturity in Christ. Then he ends his letter with the grand finale: joy.

We should be joyful in all things. Paul explains further. We can take joy in knowing that our God gives us peace through prayer, no matter our circumstance. We also can have joy knowing that God gives us peace as we focus on what is right and true. We also find joy in each other by sharing our troubles with one another. Finally, we can have joy knowing that God will supply our needs according to His riches in glory.

In this short letter, we find encouragement in times of suffering and promises of peace throughout our lives. And we are given very clear actions to follow: be united, be humble, persevere and be joyful.

Special Opportunity

We have been approached by an individual who wants to help our church to be proactive in being prepared for the future. Recently there was a chance to purchase the house behind the church, but we were not in any position to purchase it. They have since taken it off the market, but will most likely be putting it back on the market in a year or so. This anonymous person has offered to match up to $5000 each month (from May through December) that would be given to the parsonage fund over and above your regular offerings. This is a great opportunity to get prepared to purchase some needed property for parking since our church is landlocked. Please consider donating some money towards this fund so we can be better prepared for this possible opportunity. We have raised $7,185! Praise the Lord!!

Last Sunday:
We learned some reasons why your prayers may not be as effective as they could be. Most of us can identify with at least one of these locks. There are eight of them.
Sunday's message is available on our website, just under the calendar, or you can listen by visiting us on iTunes. You can also listen to previous messages.

Next Week:
Lord willing, we will be learning about the Keys to Effective Prayers.
